Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
As we age, excess skin forms in the eye area and the skin loses
its elasticity. Fatty tissue can accumulate under the skin. Your eyes
will look older as the aging process progresses, leaving the eyes
appearing tired, wrinkled, or puffy. Even with good skin and eye care
regimens, wrinkles and puffiness will catch up with you. Genetic
factors and body chemistry can cause these aging effects in younger
people. Surgery restores a youthful and refreshed appearance to your
eyes.
The Procedure
The procedure is done using local anesthesia and oral sedation. A CO2 laser is
used to remove the excess skin or fat from the treatment area. To treat sagging
upper eyelids, incisions are made along the natural lines of the upper eye lids to
camouflage any possible incision markings. For lower lids incisions are made just
below the lashes. If fat is present in the lower lid and needs to be removed a
transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be performed. During this procedure incisions
are made on the inside of the lower eyelid to eliminate any possible scarring.
Tiny sutures are utilized following the procedure to seal the open wounds.
After the Procedure
Following the procedure, patient should apply cold compresses to the
eyes for 30 minutes every hour for 24 hours. Patients should sleep at a
30-45 degree angle for the first three days following the procedure. It is
important to apply antibiotic ointment to the sutured area 3-4 times a day.
After the procedure, patients should avoid sun exposure. Heavy exertion
or liftingshould be avoided for one week. Patients should avoid taking aspirin
following the procedure and opt for Tylenol or Advil. |

During blepharoplasty, the surgeon cuts inside the creases of
your eyelids to trim sagging skin and muscle or remove excess
